25 weeks, 2 days (AKA JP’s birthday)

It’s JP’s first birthday. I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by. Joey and I decided to postpone the party we had planned for JP and his little buddies until she comes home from the hospital (although the doctors haven’t given us any indication of when that would be). So, it’s been a pretty bittersweet day. We had some mini celebrations, but we weren’t able to spend the day together as a family. What follows is a brief outline of how JP spent his special day....

  • 5:00 am ~~ Woke up and played quietly in his crib as he does every morning.
  • 6:00 am ~~ Daddy came into JP’s room singing “Happy Birthday” as he took him out of the crib. Proceeded to practice his “Twinkle, Twinkle” hand motions and his clapping.
  • 6:30 am ~~ Talked to mommy on the phone.
  • 7:15 am ~~ Went to IHOP and had his birthday breakfast with his grandparents, auntie, and cousins. Ate bananas, grapes, yogurt, and even some pancakes.
  • 9:00 am ~~ Morning nap – should have been at 8:30, but we were too excited.
  • 10:45 am ~~ Gymboree class. Parachute time and bubbles were particularly fun today. The “Choo-Choo Train Song” – not so much.
  • 11:45 am ~~ Lunch time. Got to eat all of his favorites.
  • 12:30 pm ~~ Went to the bakery to buy a birthday cake for his afternoon celebration with mommy.
  • 2:00 pm ~~ Came home and perfected his talent of putting balls in his wagon and taking them out again...and again...and again. Took his afternoon nap. Conked out!
  • 4:00 pm ~~ Party in mommy’s hospital room with cousins, auntie, uncle, G-ma June and G-pa Don Little. (Ironically, this room was just a few doors down from where he was exactly one year ago today). He tore open lots of fun presents and ate his first chocolate cake. Actually, he played with it more than he ate it. Needless to say, there was chocolate everywhere. I wonder what the nurses will think when they discover dark brown stains all over mommy’s sheets.
  • 5:30 pm ~~ Said good-bye to party guests and had some one-on-one time with mommy.
  • 7:00 pm ~~ Bath time and bed time. One b-day down…many more to come.

I think it was a good day for JP. He’s such an easy-going, wonderful kid. But it was also really hard for us to be apart from mommy. At least Tabitha is safe inside for another day. We thank God for that.
